On the project page, click a rebate rule to open its setup screen, which is organized into sections, as outlined below.
After you make your changes, click Save and Close.
Name and Scope
Details
Setting | Description |

Type | The type of rules that were enabled for this particular project:

Name | The rule name. This is the name that displays in the rule list when you open the project This name must be unique. |
Active | Whether the rule is active (yes) or inactive (no). Rules are active by default but you can change this, for example, when a rebate is posted or after its validation period has expired. Only active rebates can be calculated. |
Group(s) | The group(s) the rule belongs to. You can attach labels to rules for grouping purposes. |
Description | Optional, additional information about the rule. For example, 'Vendor ABC rebate for summer campaign 2023'. |
Validation Period
These dates determine which source database transactions count towards this rule’s calculation. They are typically the dates in the contract or agreement with the third party to whom the rebate relates.
The Valid From date is mandatory. It defines the first date from the nominated source database stream for which transactions will count towards the rebate calculation, which is usually the start date for the agreement.
The Valid To date is optional. It defines the last date for which transactions will be included in the rebate calculations. When left blank, the rebate has no end date (remains open).
Note the Validation Period is not the same as the Calculation Period (discussed later).
Based On
This section determines who the rebate applies to and on what basis. You must specify:
The dimension containing the entities on which the rebate rule is based.
The entity within that dimension on which the rebate rule is based.
You can further refine the rebate by including or excluding entities, such as specific customers or products and so on.
Include
The dimension containing items you want to limit inclusions in the calculation. No limits apply if this setting is left blank.
For example, in the image below an 'include' restriction is set so the rebate only applies to the major product group Lights and Lamps for the customer BICAM Engineering.
Exclude
The dimension containing items you want to exclude in the calculation. For example, you could set a restriction to exclude entities such as customers, product lines, brands and so on. No exclusions apply if this setting is left blank.
Brackets
The Brackets section contains two key groups of settings; the bracket conditions and the brackets themselves.

See the Learn about the rebates calculation methods for more information and examples. If you try to change the calculation method after you have set up brackets for a rebate, you will get a warning message. You can proceed but you will need to create new brackets for this rebate. |
Calculation Type | The type of calculation. There are currently two types of calculation:

Amounts Per | This setting becomes available only if the Absolute calculation method (above) is selected. The total is calculated as follows:
|
Pro Rata | This setting becomes available only if the bracket Amounts Per period is set to Yearly and Retrospective is set to Yes. It allows you to see how your rebates are likely to track for a year when you are only part-way through the year. It does this by multiplying your actual results by the number required to 'make' 12 months, applies brackets accordingly and calculates the results. |
Previous Year based on | This setting becomes available only if the Growth calculation method (above) is selected. The default variance period is the same period in the previous year, with Previous Year set 'yes'. To change this, set Previous Year to 'No' and select a start and end month for your variance period. |
Retrospective | Whether the bracket application is retrospective (yes) or not (no).
For example, if brackets were set up so that $0 - $5,000 resulted in 2% and $5,000 - $10,000 in 3%, and the customer spent $7,000, the rebate amount would be:

Bracket Basis | The measure that forms the basis of the given brackets. For example, select Qty (quantity) if you want the bracket based on selling a number of something, such as 1000 to 10001 units. Brackets are typically based on cost, quantity or value. |
Brackets
The brackets set the ‘tiers’ or ‘levels’ that apply to the rebate rule. It is common to have a tiered schedule of rates for a rebate.
For example, as illustrated in the image below, the overall range is $0 to $30,000 and there are 4 brackets, each assigned a different rebate amount.
How individual transactions can affect brackets
If a transaction spans two brackets, the transaction is effectively 'split' and the lower rate is applied to the portion within the first bracket, and the higher rate to the portion that crossed into the higher bracket. For example, looking at the image above, if total transactions were approaching the 'amount to' of 10000 (i.e., the running total stood at $9500) and a new transaction for $700 was processed, taking the total to $10,200, the lower rate is applied to the amount within the first bracket ($500), and the higher rate to the amount that crossed into the higher bracket ($200).
Add a bracket
Click New.
Enter the bracket parameters (the settings that are available depend on the selected calculation method):
% Growth From and % Growth To amounts. These settings relate to the selected bracket basis. For example, if you select a measure such as Value or Cost, they are monetary amounts, whereas if you select the Quantity measure, they are quantity amounts (a count of something).
Rebate amount:
Percentage - This amount relates to a Value/Cost measure.
Fixed value - This amount relates to the Quantity measure.
If you leave the amount blank, it will display in calculation results as either MIN or MAX.
Select one of these options:
Click Save and New if you are creating multiple brackets and repeat the above steps to add more brackets.
Click Save and Close if you're finished with the brackets.
You can edit a bracket later but can only change the rebate rate/amount, NOT the 'Amount from' or 'Amount to' (the bracket range).
Edit a bracket
Select the bracket and click Edit, then make your changes and click Save and Close.
Edit or delete a bracket
Select the bracket and click Delete. You will be asked to confirm, as the delete action cannot be undone. Once a bracket is deleted, the remaining brackets automatically adjust to cover any gaps.
Results
See the View calculation results page.
Categorization
Although this section doesn't affect the calculation of the rebate, the extra information can be useful. For example, you might want to display who a rebate is paid to (or received from) and how often. This information can be updated without making any difference to the rebate results.
Payment Details
Frequency - Select from monthly, quarterly, half yearly, yearly or other). Your selections here do not affect the bracket period selection in the Brackets section.
Dimension and Entity - Select the dimension and entity within that dimension. Your selections here do not affect the Based On selections in the rule Name and Scope section.
Audit
This information is read-only. It displays who created and last modified the rebate and when.
Attachments
You can attach and documents relevant to the rebate.
Expand the Attachments section, click Upload, then select the file, enter an name and description and click Upload.
Comments
Expand the Comments section, type your comment and click Post.
