Bar chart

A bar chart displays a number of variables together, similar to a column chart. Bars charts are good for simple comparisons, e.g., to display the top 10 product sales, or monthly output.

Once you select a dimension, you will see a bar for each focused item in the dimension. In summary view there will be a bar each for current and previous period or stream.

Working example

In this example, we want to create a bar chart to compare office expenses for the current financial YTD vs. the previous year.

Step 1: In this example, we'll use our 'Finance' database, and prepare our grid as shown below, with these selections: Variance mode, 'sub account' dimension, financial YTD, and three items selected: Stationery, office consumables and postage.

Step 2: Choose Chart and select bar .

The x axis displays the total. This always starts at zero.
The y axis depends on the mode. In period mode and moving mode, the y axis will display the time units of your current period (e.g. months/days/years). In variance mode, stream mode and total mode, the y axis will display each focused item in the current dimension.

The office expenses this YTD are shown in blue vs. last YTD in red. The chart can now be saved as a favorite or added to a dashboard.
