After you create and complete a budget workbook, you can copy that workbook and use it as a foundation for a new budget workbook. You can then update the budget values in the new workbook and publish the workbook into a new stream or existing stream (with the same structure).

The new budget workbook has the same contents as the original budget workbook, such as the structure, tabs, formulas, and so on. The budget owner and administrators also remain the same. However, you do have the option to use a different budget period.

If you want to have a rolling budget, rather than copy a budget, you can edit the date range for a budget instead. See Edit the budget workbook setup.

If you are copying a large budget, the process might take a few minutes to complete.

Copy a budget (into the same period)

This option makes an exact copy of the budget workbook (including any comments) in the same budget period. This option is useful if you want to run different scenarios, such as a best or worst case budget, alongside your main budget. You can then publish to a different stream and compare the budget scenarios in Financial Statements.

  1. Click the New button > Make a copy.

  2. Enter a name for the new workbook.

  3. Select Copy budget

  4. Click Copy

Copy a budget forward (into a new period)

This option copies the contents of the budget workbook forward into a new budget period. This option is suitable when you want to roll your budget into the next financial year.

  1. Click the New button > Make a copy.

  2. Enter a name for the new workbook.

  3. Select Copy budget forward.

  4. In the Offset box, enter the applicable number of periods that you would like to move the budget forward by. For example, enter 12 for a 12-month budget or 1 for a 1-year budget.

  5. Click Copy
