You can filter the summary financial information to analyze on the performance of one entity or a particular group of entities. When you filter the information, you can display that information in two ways:

  • Basic - The filtered information displays in the statement grid. The grid looks the same as usual but the values now relate to the specified entity or group of entities.

  • Matrix - The statement grid converts into a matrix format. The original summary information displays in the Total column and beside that are additional columns for the filtered information (entity or group of entities). The values in the total rows, such as gross profit, are at the summary and entity level respectively.

The following examples illustrate how you can filter the Profit and Loss statement to view specific information and use the matrix tool to display filtered information side-by-side.

To remove a filter and return to the high-level summary information, either click the Delete button (blue star) on the dimension or click the Reset button.

Filter by one entity in a dimension

For example, suppose you want to get a quick snapshot of the performance of one of your branches and then compare the performance of that branch alongside the overall organization performance (summary Profit and Loss statement).

  1. Click the Branch dimension. The statement grid converts into a data grid, where you can see a summary performance of each branch.

  2. In the data grid, select the branch you want to focus on by clicking the number in the beginning of its row.

  3. Select one of these display methods:

    • Basic: Click the Summary button.

    • Matrix: Click the Matrix button, then click the Summary button.

Example of basic display - The data grid converts back into the financial statements grid, where you can see the Profit and Loss statement for that branch.
Example of a matrix display - The data grid converts back into the financial statements grid, where you can see the Profit and Loss statement for that branch to the right of the summary Profit and Loss statement.

Filter by multiple entities in a dimension

Following on from the example above, suppose you now want to view the combined performance of the three lowest performing branches, then compare their performance against the overall organization performance (summary Profit and Loss statement).

  1. Click the Branch dimension. The statement grid converts into a data grid, where you can see a summary performance of each branch.

  2. In the data grid, select the rows of the branches you want to focus on, such as branch 2, 3 and 4  (click the number in the beginning of each row).

  3. Select one of these display methods:

    • Basic: Click the Summary button.

    • Matrix: Click the Matrix button, then click the Summary button.

If you select multiple entities to use with the matrix tool, you might be presented with a lot of data in the financial statements grid. To reduce the amount of data and get a clearer view of the key information, remove some columns.

Example of basic display - The data grid converts back into the financial statements grid, where you can see the combined Profit and Loss statement for branch 2, 3 and 4 (note the net profit value is the sum of the net profits of the three branches 772,794 = 264,953 + 264,787 + 243,054).
Example of a matrix display - The data grid converts back into the financial statements grid, where you can see the Profit and Loss statement for the selected branches to the right of the summary Profit and Loss statement. You can now scroll horizontally to see how your selected branches are contributing to your organization's performance..

View a dimension in a matrix

You can use the matrix tool without filtering any dimensions, to view the information for all entities in the dimensions alongside the summary information.

Continuing with the above examples, suppose you now want to compare the performance of all branches side-by-side, against the overall organization performance (summary Profit and Loss statement).

  1. Click the Branch dimension. The statement grid converts into a data grid, where you can see a summary performance of each branch.

  2. Click the Select All  button to select all the branches.

  3. Click the Matrix button, then click the Summary button. The data grid converts back into the financial statements grid, where you can see the Profit and Loss statement for each branch side-by-side, to the right of the summary Profit and Loss statement.

If you select multiple entities to use with the matrix tool, you might be presented with a lot of data in the financial statements grid. To reduce the amount of data and get a clearer view of the key information, remove some columns.
