The Phocas installer automatically makes a backup of your existing Phocas site and your PhocasMaster database during an installation.

If you need to restore your Phocas environment, run the installer and follow the steps below.

Select installation type

The first three screens in the installer are described in more detail in the Upgrade Phocas article. The steps here begin from screen 4: 'Install type'.

  • Select 'Restore from Backup'.
  • Select the site and application path for the Phocas instance to be restored.
  • Select a backup date.
    Choose Next to continue.

Example

Connect to database server

This screen is where you configure the connection between the Phocas installer and your organisation's SQL Server during the restore process.

Server

The IP or hostname of the SQL Server for the PhocasMaster database.

Credentials

The credentials that the installer will use to connect to the SQL Server. These are not necessarily the credentials used by the application to connect to the database.

  • Server: Enter the IP address or hostname of the SQL Server on which the Phocas databases are located.
  • Installation Credentials: These are the credentials that the installer will use to connect to the SQL Server. They are not necessarily the credentials used by the application to connect to the database. Select between:
    • Integrated Security – use the Windows account running the installer to connect, or
    • Username/Password – use a SQL username and password combination to connect.
  • See Locating your Phocas installation credentials

Start the restore

  • Confirm restoration details and click Restore to continue.

Complete the restore process

Progress is displayed, along with any errors. Click Finish to close the installer. This completes the restoration.

Recommended backup and recovery practices

  • Backup the PhocasMaster, PhocasCRM and PhocasSync databases as required (recommended daily).
  • Backup any staging or warehouse databases as required.
  • Backup the Phocas directory (including static data and vac files but excluding database files) as required (recommended after changing any vac file).
  • Add these backups to your backup process, ensuring backups are replicated off the server.
  • Wherever possible, you should ensure that data databases can be restored without cascading data out of an existing database.
  • No labels
