You can create rules one by one or save time by creating multiple rules simultaneously. Either way, you have the option to set up the rule from scratch or use a template, taking advantage of specified brackets and so on.

You can also clone (copy) an existing rule to quickly create a new rule based on the original rule’s settings, then edit the setup of the cloned rule as required.

Learn about templates

Templates are based on an existing rules. The are useful when the new rule you want to create is similar to an existing rule. When you select a template, the corresponding settings in the new rule setup screen are automatically completed for you. You can then edit those settings to meet the needs of the new rule.

When you create a rule, it becomes available as a template when creating subsequent rules. So if you are new to Rebates and have not created any rules yet, you will have no templates but as soon as you create one rule, you can use that as a template the next time you create a rule.

Create a single rule

  1. Open the project in which you want to create the rule.

  2. On the Rebates tab, click New.

  3. On the rule setup screen, leave Create > A single rule selected (if you want to create multiple rules at the same time, see the next section below).

  4. (Optional) Select a template from the list. The rule settings update to match those in the template.

  5. Set up the rule (or edit the default template settings), as required.

  6. Click Save and Close.

Create multiple rules at the same time

When you create multiple rules at the same time, each rule gets the same setup and their default names and descriptions are generated in the following way:

  • Name: DIMENSION name - ENTITY name - TEMPLATE name

  • Description: DIMENSION name - ENTITY name - TEMPLATE description

So the names and descriptions of those rules are very similar, differentiated only by the entity name. This is illustrated in the following example, where the first rule is called Region - QLD - Rule 1, the second is called Region - TAS - Rule 1 and so on.

You can edit each individual name and description later, in addition to changing any of the original setup.

  1. Open the project in which you want to create the rules.

  2. On the Rebates tab, click New.

  3. On the rule setup screen, select Create > Multiple rules based on a dimension.

  4. (Optional) Select a template from the list. The rule settings update to match those in the template.

  5. Select the dimension that contains the entities for whom you want to create the rules.

  6. Select the entities. You can select the checkboxes of the entities one at a time, or click and drag to select multiple entitles the same time.
In this example, four rules will be created, one for each of the selected regions.

  7. Edit the default rule name and description, if required. These details will be appended to the automatically generated name and description (see note above).

  8. Set up the rules (or edit the default template settings), as required.

  9. Click Save and Close. The grid updates to display all the new rules, which have the same last modified date.

  10. Edit an individual rule or selection of rules, if required. For example, you might want to change the rule name or validity dates.

Clone a rule

  1. Open the project in which you want to create the rule.

  2. On the Rebates tab, select the rule and click Clone. The rule is cloned instantly.

  3. Proceed to set up the rule.
