The Manual Entry driver is sometimes referred to as the “miscellaneous driver”. You might want to add this driver if you have assumptions that change at various times during the budget, but you don’t want to have to drill down into your budget master worksheet to find where you have referenced them; you simply want to have this information at hand, in one central location (worksheet tab).

Depending on how you prefer to work, you can add multiple Manual Entry driver tabs, one for each assumption, or put all your assumptions on one Manual Entry driver tab.

For example, if your vehicle quantity and related costs are likely to fluctuate over the year, you can add a Manual Entry driver tab to drive the Repairs and Maintenance account on your Main tab. As the number of vehicles and cost of maintenance and repairs changes over the year, you make the adjustments in the Manual Entry driver tab and the driven values in the Main tab will update accordingly.

  1. Click the blue plus button (blue star) next to the Main tab, enter a name for the tab, select the Manual Entry driver type, then click Add.

  2. In the new driver tab, enter the driver data. In this example, you add one row for the number of vehicles and another row for the maintenance cost per vehicle.

  3. Use the driver data in formulas on other tabs to drive budget values. In this example, you enter a formula in the Repairs & Maintenance account row in the Main tab that refers to the data in the new driver tab.
