Edit a budget or forecast workbook setup

When you explore a new budget or forecast, you might realize you need to make some changes to the contents and layout. For example, suppose you create a Sales budget workbook with two levels: Country and Branch. Then, after some consideration, you want to add a third level for the Product Class. You can add that additional level to the budget setup.

You can edit the setup of a budget or forecast at any time. If your change is destructive, you will get a message informing you that it might change the budget structure but you can still proceed with that change.

Changes to the following settings are considered to be destructive:

  • Database - You can only switch to another database of the same type. You cannot switch from a financial budget to an operational budget and vice versa

  • Template (for financial budgets only)

  • Period type, including custom periods

  • Start and end dates

  • Stream

  • Measure

  • Offset

  • Hierarchy - changing an existing level, or adding or removing a level

  • Budget-wide filter - changing the current filter, or adding to removing a filter

To open the workbook setup, either click the Budget (or Forecast) button on the top left of the grid or right-click the Main tab, then click Edit budget workbook setup. Make the required changes and click Save and Finish.
