A line chart plots performance over time, e.g., a customer's sales for this year vs. last year. When you select a dimension you see a line for each focused item in the dimension. In summary view there will be a line each for current and previous period or stream

Example - compare sales year on year

Create a line chart showing the sales of a particular product this year compared to last year. This example uses a 'Sales' database.

Step 1: Prepare the grid as follows:

  • Select the 'Product' dimension Then choose a product and Focus.
  • Select Summary.
  • Select Period > Rolling 12 months.

Step 2: Choose Chart and select Line  .

  • The y axis will display the total.
  • The x axis will display the time units of your current period (e.g. months/days/years)

The chart shows that the selected product is selling better in every month this year (blue) compared to last year (red). The chart can now be saved as a favorite or added to the dashboard (see Add a widget from the grid).

Compare cumulative data in a line chart

You can select the Use cumulative option at the left of a chart to chart current cumulative vs. previous cumulative for each time unit, rather than simply current vs. previous.
