A 'combo' chart combines a column chart and a line chart. One data set is represented by color-coded columns and the data set variable is represented by a set of points connected by straight lines. Combo charts are useful for simple comparisons involving more than one data set, for example, sales by different Reps this calendar year to date (YTD) vs last calendar YTD.

The column/line displayed depends on the view. With a dimension selected, you will see a column/line for each focused item in the current dimension, while summary view typically displays a blue column for the current period (or stream) and a red line for the previous period (or stream).

Working example

Create a Combo chart. In this example, we want to show Rep sales this calendar YTD vs. last calendar YTD.

Step 1. From a Sales database, prepare your grid as follows:

  • Select Period > YTD
  • Choose 'Rep' dimension
  • Select Mode > period

Step 2: Choose Chart and select Combo  .

  • The y axis will display the total. This always starts at zero.
  • The x axis depends on the view
    • In Summary view, the x axis will display the time units of your current period (e.g. months/days/years)
    • In Analysis view, the x axis will display each focused item in the current dimension.

Sales this year is represented by the blue columns and sales last year is represented by the red line. You can save as a favorite or add to the dashboard (see Add a favorite to your dashboard).
