The filtering options in Flexible Variance are similar to those in the other modes. This page provides links to related documentation pages, but please keep in mind that there might be some differences there. The significant differences are explained below.

Focus

  • The And indicator informs you that the AND condition is applied to the filters. You can change this to an OR condition the Advanced filter panel.

  • The Clear button allows you to instantly clear all your filters and return to the default view of the data.

1. Focus tool

The Focus button allows you to view a subset of your data in the grid.

Select one or more rows

Select the row(s) you want to focus on, then click the Focus button.

The grid updates to display only your selected rows. Any totals or averages that display in the updated grid now relate only to the selected rows of data. The status bar above the grid identifies the selected data. The number of rows you have focused on displays in brackets on the corresponding dimension (which displays in blue).

While the focus tool currently works differently from other modes, you might find these pages useful:

  • Select data. Currently, is isn’t possible to select multiple separate rows, but you can click and drag to select multiple consecutive rows. Also, when you select a row on one page of the grid and then move to another page, you lose your first selection.

  • Focus on data. Currently, it isn’t possible to exclude data or lock selections.

2. Filter box

The filter box sitting directly above the grid allows you to you perform a quick a keyword search to filter the grid.

Click the X on the chip to remove the filter. When you have two or more filters applied, you can click the red Clear button that displays next to the chips.

3. Right-click filter

The right-click filter

is available in the calculation and transaction columns in the grid. The menus are contextual, so the available options, such as the comparable columns, depend on the column you are filtering.

This is a quick and easy way to do an advanced search based on a condition directly from the grid while you're looking at the data you're interested in. This feature is particularly powerful when you use it on a custom

calculation column. You can then hide or delete the custom columns without affecting the filtered results.

The right-click filter is available in the calculation and transaction columns. It’s contextual, so the available options, such as the comparable columns, depend on the column you are filtering.

Right-click a cell in a column to display the context menu, then select the filter you want to apply.
