    A Combo chart combines a Column chart and a Line chart. One data set, such as a period or stream, is represented by blue columns and the data set variable is represented by a set of red points connected by straight lines. Combo charts are useful for simple comparisons involving more than one data set, for example, sales by different  you might want to compare sales against the budget or the performance of Sales Reps this calendar year to date (YTD) vs against last calendar YTD. 

    The  column/line displayed depends on the view. With a dimension selected, you will see a column/line for each focused item in the current dimension, while summary view typically displays following table describes what the bar chart looks like in each view.

    There is a blue column for the current period (or stream) and a red line for the previous period (or other stream).

    Working example

    Create a Combo chart. In this example, we want to show Rep sales this calendar YTD vs. last calendar YTD.

    Step 1. From a Sales database, prepare your grid as follows:

    • Select Period > YTD
    • Choose 'Rep' dimension
    • Select Mode > period 

    Step 2: Choose Chart and select Combo Image Removed . 

    There is a column/line for each of the focused items.

    X-axis

    The X-axis displays the time units of your current period.

    Y-axis

    The Y-axis displays the total, which starts at zero.

    x axis depends on the view 
    • In Summary view, the x axis will display the time units of your current period (e.g. months/days/years)
    • In Analysis view, the x axis will display each focused item in the current dimension. 

    Sales this year is represented by the blue columns and sales last year is represented by the red line. You can save as a favorite or add to the dashboard (see Add a favorite to your dashboard).

    Example - Create a Combo chart

    In the Sales database, create a Combo chart to compare the performance of all Sales Reps for the current financial year to date with the previous year.

    1. Prepare the data in the grid:

      1. Select the Sales Rep dimension.

      2. Select Mode > Variance.

      3. Select Period > Financial YTD.

    2. Click the Chart (blue star) button. The Bar chart type displays by default.

    3. Click the Bar chart category button on the left of the chart and select the Combo option.

      You can now compare the sales for each Sales Rep this year to date (blue columns) with that of last year (red line).

    4. (Optional) Save the chart as a favorite or add it to a dashboard.
