Example 1 - Use a Pareto chart to analyze sales revenue

  1. In the sales database, select a period and dimension. The example below simply uses a 'customer/ship to' dimension.
  2. Select and focus on the required number of entities, then select total mode.
  3. Switch to chart view. Click the Bar menu and select Pareto.

Example 2 - Use a Pareto chart to identify the cause of a decline in sales

In this example, a sales executive has

To do this:
  • In the sales database, set the required period and select 'customer' (or 'ship to') dimension. 
  • Select and focus on the required number of entities, then select total mode.
  • Switch to chart view and select Pareto.
  • Having seen the customer overview, the executive

    1. Prepare the data in the grid:

      1. Select the Customer dimension, then select and focus on the customers with sales of less than 200,000.

      2. Select Mode > Total.

      3. Select Period > Financial YTD.

    2. Click the Chart (blue star) button. The Bar chart type displays by default.

    3. Click the Bar chart category button on the left of the chart and select the Pareto option. The columns display revenue for individual customers, while the pareto line charts the cumulative total. You can hover over a data point on the pareto line to view the entity name, cumulative value and cumulative percent of overall revenue. Now you have the customer overview, you can further slice and dice the data for a particular region, customer, product group or even product.
