Period is the default mode for the grid. It displays data for selected dates, either as a summary or, if you choose, in greater detail.

What you see in period mode

If you haven't selected a dimension (i.e., you are still in summary view), the grid will display the relevant time unit for the selected period as the first column (e.g., if the period is 'Year to date', month will be the first column). Other columns are: current period, current cumulative, previous period, previous cumulative, variance and percentage variance.

Once you select a dimension, period mode changes to display active properties for the chosen dimension, a column for each relevant time unit for the selected period and a total column.

Note about periods

Every database has a default period, which determines what date range displayed when you first select a database. You can change to a different date range using the Period button.

Period mode is the default mode that applies to the grid. It works in conjunction with the Period function (menu) to display data for selected time periods.

    Info

Every database has a default period that determines the date range that displays when you select a database. You can change to a different date range using the Period menu.

In Summary view, Period mode gives you an overview of your data across the selected period. The grid displays seven columns, starting with the Period column that displays the relevant time unit (day/month/year) for the selected period. For example, if the period is Year to Date, the months display and if the period is Quarter 1, the three months in that quarter display. The other columns are: Current (period), Current Cumulative, Previous (period), Previous Cumulative, % Variance and % Variance Cumulative.

When you select a dimension, Period mode changes to display columns for the active properties (such as Code and Name) for the chosen dimension, a Total column, and a column for each time unit in the selected period, giving you a month-by-month or day-by-day view of your data, for example. If more than one measure is selected, more columns will display.
